Jack Kirby Interview – Part VII

The final installment of the Hour 25 Kirby interview. This one is only about 10 minutes. Jack talks about:

  • New Gods: The Source
  • Superhero movies: “The superhero has and will always be part of the American scene”
  • Ruby-Spears
  • New superheroes and new comics
  • Contemporary comics storytelling
  • Are comics bad for you?
  • “I think that comic books, like any other literature, when it’s done by good men, will give you the thrill of a lifetime”

Over the years, I’ve seen many comics collectors and experts talk about what Kirby “would think” about certain topics, but I enjoyed listening to Jack speak for himself. It could be argued that some of the remarks Jack made in this radio interview weren’t factually accurate, but I think mainly what we have here is Jack doing his best to give a solid, entertaining  interview, and I’d guess Jack probably didn’t have very clear recollections of many of the events that happened to him decades ago – and like most people over time, memories become mixed up – so despite a few historical inaccuracies, Jack struck me as a sincere and humble gentleman in this interview. I hope you enjoyed it.
